Background
Two vendors, two versions, one unfinished platform
Another vendor originally built and launched v1 of the application. A developer then tried to rewrite it as v2, using AI to do much of the work.
By the time the project reached us, v2 was far along, but it wasn't ready to launch.
The challenge
Close to done isn't done
Unfinished. Significant parts of the v2 application were incomplete.
Buggy. The existing code had defects that had to be found and fixed before launch.
Missing key features. Ecommerce, subscriptions and search weren't built yet.
Live data in v1. Everything in the running v1 system had to come across to v2 intact.
Our approach
Review first, then a plan to finish
Rather than starting over or patching blindly, we began with a clear-eyed look at what was already there.
Full code review. We reviewed the v2 codebase to understand its structure, quality and gaps.
Keep vs. rebuild. We decided which parts were solid enough to keep and which had to be rebuilt, so the client kept the value already in the code without inheriting its problems.
A plan to finish. We put a plan in place to complete the project, migrate the data and launch successfully.
What we delivered
From unfinished to launched
Ecommerce
We built the missing ecommerce features into the v2 platform.
Subscriptions
We added the subscription features the business needed.
Search
We implemented search, another key feature missing from the rewrite.
Complete data migration
We migrated all data from v1 to v2 for a clean cutover to the new platform.
The takeaway
AI can speed things up. Experience gets you to launch.
AI tools can produce a lot of code quickly, but the code still needs experienced engineers to review it, find the gaps and finish the job. If you have a project that's stalled, half-finished or left behind by a previous vendor, we can assess it and give you a clear path forward.
